Congratulations to everyone who applied for The Sydney Piano Lovers’ Competition and worked towards this serious musical goal – this in itself is an achievement and has been a great opportunity to celebrate Australia’s amateur pianists.
Repertoire at all levels of difficulty was welcomed for the competition however, mature musicianship and technical mastery of the chosen repertoire were important considerations when choosing the winners.
Our international jury, including Piers Lane, Kathron Sturrock and Nikos Stavlas, expressed how impressed they were at the overall dignity and musical understanding in all the entries – even with such wide variety of technical abilities. Together they have selected 2 equal first place winners of the competition. All 31 entrants will receive written jury feedback and a certificate of participation and the co-winners will perform as part of the Sydney International Online Piano Competition in July 2021.
Our sincere congratulations to Tanya Hall and Ian Lucas who have been awarded equal first place winners of the inaugural Sydney Piano Lovers’ Competition, announced via Zoom on Saturday 5 December 2020. Below are their winning performances for you to enjoy at home.
